Schola Cantorum

With Heart and Voice

The Schola Cantorum of St. Mark’s, a choir of men’s voices, was formed in October 1983 by then-music director David Lee Maulsby, with the assistance of Richard Colvig and the Rector, Rev. Phil Getchell. Its purpose was to assist in the musical needs of a monthly solemn service of Evensong. The nucleus of the Schola was former members of a group which had sung weekly Sunday Compline since 1968. The Schola’s repertory is from music set for lower voices, and ranges from Renaissance to contemporary settings.

The Schola has also sung at services in various Bay Area locations, including Christ Church, Alameda; St. Albert’s Dominican Priory in Oakland; and Notre Dame des Victoires in San Francisco.  The Schola is scheduled to sing at a Saturday afternoon Mass in February, 2016, at the Catholic Cathedral of St. Joseph in San Jose.
