The 38th Season of the Second Sunday Evensong/Organ Recital Series concludes at St. Mark’s, Berkeley on Sunday, May 12, 2024. 


A Mother’s Day Choral Evensong, offered by the St. Mark’s Choir, George Emblom, director and Jonathan Dimmock, organist, will be offered at 4:00 p.m.
The Rev. Lizette Larson-Miller will officiate.

Following Evensong (around 4:45pm) an Organ Recital be offered by Joseph Tak Maga.

Joseph Tak Maga will graduate from UC Berkeley with degrees in Music and Economics and a minor in Political Economy two hours before he plays this recital! At Cal, he studied organ with George Emblom, having previously studied with Jun Kim and Jonathan Dimmock. Joseph performs across the Bay Area, including as music director for musical theater productions and on the Sather Tower Carillon as a student of Jeff Davis. An active organist and pianist, he recently served in the fall of 2024 as interim organist for St. Mark’s, Berkeley during the sabbatical of the Director of Music. A winner of the UC Berkeley 2024 concerto competition, Joseph performed the Concerto pour orgue of Francis Poulenc with the University Orchestra, as well as An Alpine Symphony of Richard Strauss and the Requiem of Maurice Duruflé with the UC Berkeley Chamber and University Chorus.  
Mr. Maga is a recipient of UC Berkeley’s 2024 Eisner Prize in the Creative Arts.

Outside of music, Joseph was previously a research fellow at Berkeley’s Institute of International Studies and an intern for the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington. This summer, he will pursue his interests in foreign policy and economic development, traveling to Singapore as a policy research intern at a law firm.

A festive reception will follow the program.
Parking is available in the parish lot at 2315 Ellsworth.

The St. Mark’s Choir made their sixth pilgrimage to England in July 2023 offering two one-week residencies Wells and Durham Cathedrals.
The Choir will return to England in 2026 with two one-week residencies in Norwich and Canterbury.
